The Holy Spirit – His Differences

The Holy Spirit – His Differences

Philippe Paquette

The Holy Spirit is one of the three Divine Beings (let’s call them Persons) and they are the substance of what is known as “The Trinity”. (The use of the masculin, in the title of this Post, is not relevant. The Godhead is sexless… or if you prefer, they cover equally the masculine on the same level as the feminin.) This divine Spirit is one of the least well known of the Godhead, the Trinity. In fact, the Lord or the Apostles are NEVER heard as “praying” to the Holy Ghost. That is simply because we pray “BY” the Holy Spirit and not TO “it”. The Spirit is called to promote the Son.
Do remember that the “Trinity” is not a word found in the Bible but then, the word “Bible” is not in the Holy Scriptures and many other words used by Christians are not in the Bible. The “Ascension” is alluded to in several passages in the Gospels during of our Lord’s earthly ministry (Luke 9:31,51; John 6:62; 7:33; 12:32; 14:12,28; 16:5; 20:17). These passages show that the event was constantly in view, and anticipated by our Lord. The Ascension is also clearly implied in the allusions to His coming to earth on clouds of heaven (Matthew 24:30; 26:64). Yet the word “ascension” itself is never used in the Bible. It is implied and alluded too but never written. Does that make it false. Of course not. Because a word is not found in the Bible does not make such a word anti-biblical.

The Bible presents the Holy Spirit in many ways:

He also has the following names:

We can attack the Holy Spirit in certain actions, like:

  • We can curse the Holy Spirit (Matt 12:31) (heavy) – not cool at all…
  • We can insult the Holy Spirit (Heb. 10:29)
  • We can grieve and quench the Holy Spirit (Eph. 4:30 and 1 Thess. 5:19) – all Christians sadly do…
  • We can also resist the Holy Spirit with lack of faith (Acts 7:51). Atheists and Agnostics, for example. Be aware.

Finally,

the Holy Spirit was very active in the life of Jesus as He is in ours.  We are told that Jesus, as a man, was conceived by the Holy Spirit in Matt 1:18 and 20; Jesus was baptized by the Holy Spirit as seen in Matt. 3:15, He also “filled” Jesus with Power as in Luke 4:14 and 18.  The Spirit also “led” Jesus in his ministry (Luke 4:1) and it is written that the Holy Spirit rose Jesus from the dead (Rom 8:11).

So, there you have it. All these elements make the Holy Ghost a unique, different and Wonderful Divine Person.

One last note of interest. Other than very few exceptions, the 3 Persons of the Trinity are never together on earth. There are a few exceptions. The birth of Christ, the Baptism of Christ… the Resurrection of Christ…) but in the entire Bible, there is only ONE Divine entity present on earth. Most of the Old Testament (if not all of it) was the Son (JVH).  John 1:18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

Thus, Jesus of Nazareth was “the Word”, the very expression of the Godhead on earth during the time of the Old Testament and the New. Than simply means that the Jehovah of the Old Testamement is the Jesus of the New.

But when Jesus was about to leave earth, only then could the Spirit come.  “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 about sin, because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.”

John 16; 12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

So, in essence, ONE follows the OTHER. But they are never on earth at the same time (with few exceptions.)

The Holy Spirit is here, now, either “in” you and “with” you if you have faith in Christ, our Blessed Savior… or HE is “around” you if you are an Atheist or an Agnostic. His work is seeking open hearts, simply to convince them that there is TRUTH and REVELATION for a higher Power and all of this is found is a little book called “The New Testament”.

On a personal note, I did not believe this at all and one day I had an argument with my brother about Jesus… so I stole a New Testament from The Bible House on Lisgar Street in Ottawa. (I was a student in College and broke but I had to prove my borother wrongs because my Mom was to be the vitctim. Ask me in private about it)… and reading it was a total shock to me and I have so much more to say… my bio is published so ask me).

At any rate, the Holy Spirit R.O.C.K.S. !
